Journey 2 The Mysterious Island
Journey 2 is the sequel to 2008 Film Journey to the Center of the Earth , Both films are based on Novels by Jules Verne.
The first film starred Brendan Fraser ,Josh Hutcherson and Anita Briern but due to scheduling issues only Josh Hutcherson was able to reprise his role.
I remember the first film being quite enjoyable and looked forward to the sequel. This time our Young Sean (Josh Huthcerson) is a bit older and Dwayne Johnson plays his Stepfather – Hank Parsons, in a bid to try and connect with his stepson Hank decides to help out Sean with his project of trying to find his grandfather who's been missing for two years.
The clues Sean has are in form of a code which he tried to break using Satellite in research centre he broke into. After getting caught and grounded that is ( this guy is pretty grown up ,Grounded ?) any how Hank and Sean look at clues in three books ; Treasure Island, Gulliver's Travels and Verne's own Mysterious Island. . Hank sees that the maps on the books are all connected in some way and when placed over one another give a larger picture.
So the code has been cracked and now Sean wants to set sail to go the coordinates on the map ,laughing it of Hank thinks this is silly, but when Sean sneaks out and leaves to go on his escapade Hank decides to go after the Lad ,or be in trouble with his mother.
When he catches up with Sean ,Hank has no choice but to pander to his beliefs (Hank thinks this is the best way to prove Sean wrong) but when they hire a helicopter and Pilot and his daughter (Sean's Love Interest in the film ) and end up getting caught in a storm which brings them down on a island which shouldn't be there and is the home to some pretty amazing sights Hank starts to have second thoughts.
Things get more strange when they are chased by prehistoric animals and end up finding Sean's Grandfather – Alexander Anderson ( Michael Caine) . When they meet Hank is dumbfounded and Sean has been proven right ,but the main goal now is to try and get home .
Alexander has been on the island for a couple years and made himself at home , it was him that sent out the code which Sean received . Alexander and Hank don't seem to see eye to eye as there priorities are divided . The next day Alexander leads them to a site that will amaze them , The Lost City of Atlantis. The city is only visible in a cycle of 140 years ,but Hank proves that the cycle Alexander predicts is wrong and says the City will be submerged in just a couple of Days , Now there only hope is to find the Vessel that brought legendary explorer Captain Nemo to the island ,the Nautilus.
If you like your films so you can switch of and enjoy the scenario then Journey 2 and it's predecessor are great films for that. With all the latest technology and 3D imaging the film is a lush experience with some great vistas that on a big screen look sumptuous.
Dwayne ''The Rock''Johnson plays the role well and shows he is equally comfortable as the action hero and the caring father in the many roles he plays, Seeing the The Rock sing a song is shock I must say,the shock being he is pretty good.
Michael Caine is as reliable as ever and his role reminds me of his role of Alfred in the Batman films.
It won't tax your brain but as great Sunday afternoon entertainment for the family Journey 2 is fun and light hearted with some good performances .
